The phrase “matan do” (mott-tan doe) means "sun" to the Kayan tribe on the island of Borneo; the english translation literally being “the eye of day.” To the creatures and life of this planet, human and non-human alike, the eye of day is the ultimate sustainer of life, providing nourishment, light, and warmth to the living creatures and elements of the earth, all of which abiding their existence respectfully within the grand circle of earthly and cosmic life.

Because of our, human-specific, habitual malevolance, our seemingly hereditary addiction with over-consumption, needless destruction, and insensitive slaughter, one day, our wonderous sustainer of life will turn, instead, into the destroyer.

Despite the human need to feel as being the center of all things, the universe does not agree with the teachings of Ptolemy, as we are but a speck on the vast canvas of space. Additionally, there is not only one destroyer in this vast universe, but many. The reciprocation of sustenance provided at the anguish of other life, spared no expense, nears the righteous hour of our global genocide; our mutual suicide; our genus distilment.

That day, when all engulfing fires consume the remaining burdens of humanity, all the eyes of the blistering day will gaze upon our blunders until they burn away...
